I have written a series of emails detailing some excellent
Windows XP Tweaks.

They are FREE and available at:

http://www.updatexp.com

Look for the section: "Windows XP 30 Tips"

If you have valid tweaks and you are NOT going to use the e-mail addresses
for any other purpose then why require an e-mail address ??
If you are genuine then post your 30 tweaks openly on your web site and do
not expect users to blindly give you their addresses "on faith"

I agree with Mike. Why do you want people to supply their e-mail address to
you? You can simply create a TXT, HTML, or PDF document, up it to your site
and place a link to make it downloadable. In this way you are not swamped
with email requests and people don't have to give out their address. If you
are wanting to be paid for your work, and there is nothing wrong with that,
then setup a PayPal account. There is already too much spam being sent out.

Harry,

Thanks you for you post. However I do object to being cast
as a Spam merchant...

As an IT Manager I have gained much experience with
Microsoft XP, in both enterprise and small business
enviroments. One of the "Pains" of my life is Spam - so I
would hardly want to be associated with it...

I have several servers, one of which uses commercial
Autoresponder software that is Fully Opt-In (and at any
time the respondent can Opt out.)

I use this method, as opposed to PDF downloads as it
simply uses less bandwidth and server processes...

As for loading as HTML I used to do this, but found that
many users of my other websites wanted the information by
email, rather than having to always visit the website for
it. I know therfore offer a mix of both!

If I have upset you guys it was certainly NOT intended!

Yours

Marc Liron

You are taken a back because you draw an inference that I consider you to be
a spammer. After reading your reply to my post I thought well maybe I did
judge the guy harshly so I took the plunge and signed up with a name and
account I use for such purposes. What I received back is thinly veiled spam.
Yes I received a tip however you state in the e-mail that you will only send
me tip a day for the next 29 days because I likely can't handle receiving
all 30 tips at once. So you are setting me up to receive an additional
e-mail daily from you for a month. The website makes no mention of this.
That is spamming. But even more so before I get to read the tip I see that
you place a url link to an advertisement for a Tweaking program you sell.

Excuse me but the way I see it is like this spam by any other name would
smell so ........

Actually, he does mention the 30 day span, Harry:

I have collected 30 excellent Windows XP Tweaks and put them in a series of
emails delivered over 30 days... Try them out now!
At least the references to the other "software" isn't that bad, just two
links. Will have to see the tips that he's providing..........

Doug I can't see where he mentions the "30 day span" on his website
http://www.updatexp.com/ First you have to supply your name and e-mail addy.
This info is harvested by a third party which then gives you a thank you.
See this page http://www.mr-pdf.com/thanks.htm ) There is never any
reference about 30 tips over 30 days in 30 separate e-mails until you
receive the first e-mail. Then you learn that you will receive one tip per
day for the next 30 days. Whether or not the tips are good is not the point.
While the product might be excellent and the tips good it is still spam. He
protests and says it is not but it is. And trying to get off some of these
mailing lists can be a royal PITA. While he says that the info is not shared
with anyone else I am sceptical given that the info is collected through a
third party.

Its not mentioned on the main page, but it is mentioned on the XP Tweaks

getting off of mailing lists, and what others you'll wind up on. I used an
address that I don't use for much else, so if I start getting spam from
other sources, I'll know.

Thanks Doug. I think he should place the same info on the Home Page. And I
resent his rationale that people can't absorb 30 tips all at once so he
sends one out per day. Give me a break. I also used a new account. I'll see
what happens with it but I won't be surprised to see even more info coming
in from this guy.
