View Full Version : Windows Update says cannot run ActiveX

When I try to run windows updateI get the error
message "You current security settings prevent running
ActiveX on this page. As a result the page may not
display correctly." The same problem appears to prevent
me from accessing any secure site.
This happens despite my security settings being low and
after trying a range of other 'fixes'.
Any one else have this problem.

You may need to add sites to "Trusted Zone".
Follow this link:

Look for:
"Why do I get a message saying an ActiveX control on this page is not
safe?"
Otherwise:

Clear History
8. If you use AOL, minimize AOL and open Internet Explorer and try

9. Set a language in Internet Explorer:
To check the language setting in Internet Explorer:

11. Upgrade to Internet Explorer Service Pack 1 if not already
installed:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp
12. Start/Run

Try windows Update again.
When done, go back to MSCONFIG.
Recheck Start-up tab items and place to normal Start-up if that was
original configuration.
Click OK and follow prompts.
13. Change the URL from "http..." to "https...".
14. Check the Windows Update Log in the "C:\Windows\Windows
