Hi

I have used the Home Networkning wizard in in Xp Pro.

I have an Dekstop and Laptop. Both Xp pro.

On both mascines I got the autocreated adress 169.254.72.x

Strange, I thought the I should get the 192.168 adress.

Any one know how to change ths without using stactic
adress.

A Windows XP computer tries for sixty seconds to obtain an IP
address from a DHCP server. Failing that, it will use automatic
private IP addressing to give itself an address in the 169.254.x.x
range. You will get an IP address in the range of 192.168.x.x only
if you have a DHCP server assigning that range or you set a fixed IP
address of that range in the TCP/IP properties. As long as you use
private IP addresses in the same subnet and have the same workgroup
name for the two computer, you should be alright.
