disk checking in winxp

Hey guys, win xp pro keeps checking my disk for errors
(like the old scandisk) everytime i start up my computer.
Does this mean anything? Is there anyway I can disable it?

try letting it complete the disk check and then reboot normally, or try
converting the partition to NTFS
