View Full Version : Administrator / Password / Logon...

I was asked to try to recover some files on a computer at a friends office
the other day. When I went in, the girl had password protected access to all
her files...problem was, she was working as administrator. Booted up in safe
mode, got rid of the password, rebooted, and all was thought to be well.
Transferred her files from admin to her "new" account logon. Thing now is,
when the computer starts up, it logs onto administrator by default, we can
switch users, but cannot log off administrator..if we do, at the logon
splash screen, admin is gone, and none of the other users logons will
work.....ANY IDEAS??

Are the other user logons visible on the Welcome Screen? What happens when
you click on them, after logging out of the Administrator. By default, the
Administrator account does not appear on the Welcome Screen, once other
accounts have been created.

Yes, the other user logons appear, but once clicked on, the screen flickers
(goes black as if it were about to change wallpapers), and then comes back
to the welcome screen...two of the users (accounts) have no password, one
does...if the password account is clicked, the small password input window
appears, and after the password is typed in, the same (as above) happens.
When switching users, is it normal for the administrator to appear on the
welcome screen? (it does if I "switch users" but not if I log out of
administrator and try to log on to one of the the other three users)

No, its not normal for the Administrator account to appear on the Welcome
screen. It may if you force log on to that account, I've never noticed.

A User Logon Request Is Rejected Without Any Messages
The above KB article may be the answer. Unfortunately, you'll have to
contact MS for the fix, but if it is applicable to your problem, you
shouldn't have to pay for the support call.
