I just installed a critical update regarding Internet.
After rebooting I am unable to log onto the administrator
screen. I get to the "backround" and none of my icons
appera. I logged on as my son and am able to use the
system. I tried to change him to the admin but can not. I
really need help. Thanks, Kathy

Kathy,

I had exactly the same problem as you had tonight and I just got done with a
very long call with MS tech support about it. Here's what we did to "fix"
mine:

Go into the registry and find the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserLis t. Now click on the value
with the same name as the account that disappeared from your machine. Open
it and look at the "Value Data" field. If it says "0", then change it to
"1". Exit the registry and reboot.

Caveat: This is what worked on MY system. It may not work on yours. As
usual, messing in the registry if you don't know what you're doing can be
catastrophic. Make sure you back up that key before changing it. If you
don't know what I'm talking about, don't try it.

Good luck...
