I have IMAP email does a way exist to automatically
download emails and attachments vs opening header and
waiting or selecting download.

Don't use IMAP. heh

Tools -> Options -> Mail Setup -> Send/Receive button..

Select the proper group and click on Edit (You likely only have one group)
Click on your IMAP account from the list of accounts on the left (you may
only have one..)
If an item you want to change is already "checked" in the right hand window
(for example, Inbox) - uncheck it and recheck it. That opens new options
underneath for "Download complete item including attachments" - check this -
I believe this is what you are looking for.

You could use Outlook help to tell you this.. I searched for "IMAP download
complete item" and it came up with this:

1.. On the Tools menu, point to Send/Receive Settings, and then click
Define Send/Receive Groups.
2.. Click a group that contains your IMAP account, and then click Edit.
3.. Under Accounts, click your IMAP account.
4.. In the list, select the check box for each folder you want to include
when checking e-mail, and after each folder you select, click Download
complete item including attachments.
Good Luck! Google, Help and Support and other inline help tools are your
friends!
