I have this file that opens itself up and its a tilde (~). It states its in
my Settings/Desktop. Its like 207kb. I try to erase it and it comes back
again and again. I thought it was a virus and have run scans on it and
nothing comes up. Anyone have any idea and how I might permantely remove as
it is annoying?

The file is produced by Outlook Express and contains everything in your
address book. Why it keeps popping up on the desktop, I dont know. I deleted
everything inside the file and left it there for a few days, then deleted
it. It hasnt came back..... yet. It's also happening on Win98 machines as
well. Some only got the file after a critical update patch and some only got
the file when they viewed a business card. (This was a big discussion in one
of the graphics groups I was in last month.) Several wrote to MS but their
replies were not very helpful. It's just a temp file, but I agree in that it
is very annoying to have it reapear time and again.
Sorry I could not be of more help.
