My system has stopped making sounds.

For no apparant reason my system has stopped making
sounds. I can play CDs using Dell Play and they are fine
but I lost start up sounds, AOL sounds, Quicken sounds
etc.

Additionally I can no longer send FAXS.

I tried to do a restore to a time when these parts woked
but no luck.

Can anyone help me?
