I want to format my hard drive and do a clean install of
win XP. Please give me step by step directions on how to
delete all data on the HD.
Is a boot disk all I need to start my reinstall?

You may even not need this disk at all if your computer can boot from
the Windows-CD: insert the CD and boot from it. Setup will start and
let you choose whether to install on top of the existing Windows
installation or to re-setup the HDD.

Just boot from the CD, and follow the prompts.

You don't even need that.

If you cannot boot from the XP cd then download the files from the Microsoft
site for the 6 boot floppies or use a windows 98 boot floppy and fdisk the
non dos partition. If you cannot accomplish it this way then use the dos
installer for windows xp "winnt.exe" which is in the i386 folder on the CD.
Just follow the prompts to format.

Greetings --
Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
