I messed up my system trying to make a Linux parition.
Everything is now back to 'go'. I have all my data (which
is all that really matters), and an operational XP system -
but - I had previously installed SP-1 and ALL the hot-
fixes.
The re-install of XP (upgrade option) has (obviously) set
my system back to the initial XP configuration (minus SP-1
and minus all the hot-fixes).
Solution - simple - just re-install SP-1 (I have the CD)
and download all the (48 or so) hot-fixes.
Problem - when I try to re-install SP-1 it bombs on
the "checking product key" phase, about 2 minutes into the
install after inventory and after driver check, etc...
One possible clue - when I do a "sfc /scannow" it
says "Insert your BDA now". What the hell is this, and
why does "it" need to be inserted. I do see a bda
directory on the C:\ drive.
Yea - I know I can install everything from scratch - I do
have all my data - but - I don't like things like this
to "beat" me - - -
Any suggestions - - -
