Yes. It may not be the problem but you should check that
win Xps inbuilt firewall setting is not switched on as I
think this would prevent a ping. This is located in
Control Panel, Network Connections, Local Area Connection,
(or relevent entry), right click this then go to
Properties - Advanced. Make sure the Firewall entry is not
hatched.
Worth a quick look.
