View Full Version : Error deleting unwanted files

My computer has installed some unwanted files on the hard
drive, via the internet (such as MY Way). I've tried to
deleted them normally, through by-passing the recycle
bin, changing them from read-only status - but nothing
works but always get an "error deleting file or folder -
access denied make sure disk not full, write protected or
currently in use" (none of which apply).
I also get an error when I tried to cut them and paste
elsewhere (cannot remove folder: the directory is not
empty."
This is driving me particularly crazy since I didn't
authorise or ask for any of these programs to be installed.
If anyone knows really how to delete these things, please
let me know.
Thanks.

Click start > run and in the open field type:
msconfig
and click ok.
On the startup tab, un check any programs that apply to what you are trying
to delete.
Click apply, ok and restart the computer.
Try deleting the files again.

HI Ray,
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I'm still getting
the same error on a few of the files (example "MyWay").
Is there anything else that I could try?
Thanks for your help.

Have you tried booting to safe mode and deleting them from there?

I had a problem like that last week. I solved it by opening a command
prompt window (dos window) and running CHKDSK /F. That cleaned up the
broken chains in this otherwise "empty" folder and finally allowed me to
delete it.
