Hi,
How are you trying to install? As an upgrade or as a clean install? Make
sure any antivirus is disabled, whether it is win-based software or in the
system BIOS.

This is a clean install Mr Rogers. I was running 98 SE
and reformattted my C: drive so it would be clean when I
installed XP Pro. No virus protection running other than
the boot virus detection in the BIOs. Think that's the
culprit? If it is thanks for helping me to have a
wonderful day in the XP neighborhood :)

Hi Rick,
Yes, it's quite likely the culprit. Disable it and see if it helps.
