I upgraded my Vista desktop to Win 7 about a week ago. Now, for some reason
a little white box with grey letters has appeared in the lower right-hand
corner with the name of my network and internet access in it. Does anyone
else have this and does anyone know how to make it go away? I like my
desktop clean and free of clutter. I consider this unnecessary clutter.

I assume you mean on the task bar By the clock. This is the icon in the
notification area It can be hidden by customizing the notifications If you
so wish.

No, it isn't in the task bar. It is a one inch by 3/4 inch WHITE BOX with
grey lettering. It has the name of my network in the first line and the
second line says Internet Access. Clicking on it in any way has no effect
on it and it is not listed in the taskbar notification menu.

Yes, that is exactly what it looks like. You actually got it to drag to the
taskbar? Mine seems to be unmovable. Is your desktop connected wirelessly?
I wish I had the actual name of the thing so I could at least search the MS
Knowledge Base.

No Mine is On the task Bar. I tried to drag it off to see if that is what
had happened to you, but all that happened was it became hidden. If you try
right clicking the task bar and selecting properties You can turn off
Network notification Then maybe turn it back on and it might then stay on
the task bar

Hi Annie,
This is part of the notification area.
If you right click on the Taskbar/Properties/Customize/ Network
and tell it to hide the icon, it should disappear.

If you look below it on the taskbar next to the speaker icon is a small
square icon. That is the icon for the balloon notice you are seeing. Try
messing with it and see if it will clear.
