View Full Version : Live Mail Trashes Folder Names!

For many years, I have been using underscores before a group name in order
to
change the sort order to the way I like, i.e., If I need a temporary group
to hold bad addresses,
I may create a folder called "_______Bad Addresses."
I use the number of underscores to control the position in the list.
Unfortunately, when I try to import these into Live Mail, it screws up the
group names!
Since I have around 30-40 group names, it would be a pain to have to remove
all the underscores (and lose the sort order!)
Is there any other way for Live Mail to import these without screwing up
and/or
truncating the names?

Many thanks,
Dave

Why use Live Mail?
I'm working with Winmail here, no problems at all.

How are you using Windows Mail in Windows 7?

Too dangerous to mess with.

Worked flawlessly for me for over a year... YMMV

Not at all.
Very easy to do and it works like a charm.
It kept all my contacts, newsgroups settings and old mails too.

However, if you're happy with WLM, just go ahead.

About your question, you can use Everything:
http://www.voidtools.com/
(or bad software: Windows Search, if you prefer)

to find out where your underscored filenames are being kept by WLM, then
mass-rename them with this tool:
http://www.albert.nu/default.asp?sub=programs/default.asp?sub=renamer/main.htm
or any Microsoft tool for that purpose, if available.

I hope it helps.

I'm using Live Mail because I thought it would handle my
old OE6 data correctly. If there is another mail handler that
solves my initial problem, I may switch.

Might do that, however, it might just be easier to remove
all the underscores!

Will give it a try, as long as the folder names are not
imbedded within the other files!
