View Full Version : Auto-selection of different browsers?

I adopted Firefox as my default browser. Unfortunately, one web site I
must access requires IE (no option here).

Is it possible to create a custom shortcut which would tell the system
to use IE to access a specific site while keeping Firefox for others?

Thanks in advance ;-)

This will not work for me. Essentially, I have shortcuts on my
desktop. For all but one site (which I must be able to access),
double-clicking on the .url link starts Firefox and navigates to the
site. However, this specific site requires IE and thus the FF browser
displays a message to this effect. I need to manually open IE and
paste the link so that it can start.

So I am trying to learn if one can have a shortcut which would call a
different browser. A Google search suggested that I change the "URL"
string in the shortcut as follows:

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe "https://<URL>"

However, it does not work (error message stating that it is invalid)

Try:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" "http://url"

i.e. quotes round the program name and URL.

Tell me what you need, and I'll tell you how to get along without it.

If you only have one site
just make it your homepage in IE
when you want to go there just start IE :-)

IE Tab can be configured to always open specific sites in the IE mode.

Then you should email the owners and tell them that they are losing out on
at least 25% of customers...or whatever.

Is 'BrowserTraySwitch'
(http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/browsertray/) what you're
looking for?

Correct. I have several sites configured this way and they work
without issues.
