View Full Version : Black screen death?

32 bit W7 home premium - did upgrade, not new install - everything worked
fine for a few weeks - I was working today, had a few screens open, when the
desktop went black. Nothing would revive it. I had to force a power down,
then start it up. Has anybody else experienced this? Or is it maybe my
laptop, an Acer 5810TZ, with 3 GB and 320 GB. TIA, Paul

Could be. One of the first things I do with a MS-OS is turn off the
automatic updates. Then say 1-2 days before they release the next
batch, if their isn't too much noise to the negative, I load them. If
not I wait.

And once XP get stable, I don't updte much if a all, and selectively at
that. Seems like at the end of life cycles they get sloppy, either
trying to drive you the next $$ of Windows or perhaps out of appathy.

And editing the registry to fix? Stupid. Perhaps Microsoft has made it
too complex for them to get it right. Maybe KISS - Keep it simple
stupid should make the MS reading list. Simple enough we can get some
tilely fixes. Vista has the same issues with Explorer restarting
unexpectedly and has since beta and is still a problem today.

Yup, that's it! I just did a 20 plus issues upgrade! I hope they provide
the antidote soon!

1) Restart your PC
2) Log on and wait for the black screen to appear
3) Make sure your PC should be able to connect to the Internet (black
screen does not appear to affect this)
4) Press the CTRL, ALT and DEL keys simultaneously
5) When prompted, Click Start Task Manager
6) In Task Manager Click on the Application Tab
7) Next Click New Task
8) Now enter the command:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
9) Click OK and your (Web) browser should start up and begin the
download process
10) When prompted for the download Click run, the black screen fix
program will download and run to automatically fix the issue.
11) Now restart your PC and the black screen problem will hopefully be
gone.

So what they are saying is that when the girl at work today did a Windows
Update, and *directly* afterwards suffered this problem, it was *not* from
the updates ? (Even though everything was hunky-dory prior to that ?)

I have only experienced the black screen of death one time. Whew! I'll
wait for Microsoft to fix it.
