Cannot switch between user accounts

I have had to reinstall windows xp over the top of my
original installation because of a corrupt file,
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\vgaoem.fon was the culprit. however I
cannot switch between the two user accounts that i have
set up mine and my wifes. if i log off and select switch
user the system goes back to welcome screen but when i
select the second account the screen just flashes and
returns to the welcome screen again. Only by restarting
the computer can i access another account......this works
the other way also if my wifes account is logged on first
and i then try to access my account from hers.

Any suggestions would be geatly appreciated.
