View Full Version : Administrator Password in XP Home

I have an aborted installation of Service Pack 1a and when
I boot from the CD then try to use repair console I am
prompted for my administrator password, but when I type in
the password I use to log on as the administrator, I am
told "invalid password". Nothing I try seems to work.

I am now thinking that I have a corrupt *.pwl file and how
can I delete it safely and revert back to no password or
at least force XP to see the correct password by forcing
XP to rebuild this file?

I do have a ghost image of my entire hard drive stored on
a firewire drive, just in case.

Richard;
Try this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q308402&

Install SP1a

If those fail, try a Repair Installation:

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_install.htm
Windows Update and Service pack will need to be reloaded.
