I took hot fixes from Windows Update and every time my
computer boots up, windows installer starts but doesn't
install anything tht I can see. Auto updates is turned
off.
I believe the file that lauches is msiexec.exe but not
sure where inthe reg to remove it.

Thx for any suggestions.

Applications that start with Windows can be found here:
- the WIN.INI, section [windows], entries "run=" and "load="
- the Registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServices
- the folders
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\{username}\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
See also "How to Troubleshoot By Using the Msconfig Utility in Windows
XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310560).

thanks, this is under Xp and under all the places
suggested, nothing is calling for msiexec.exe
Automatic updates is running as a service in MsConfig but
under the control pannel settings it is not checked. ?
All is grayed out.

It may be disabled.
Do you use the Microsoft Office package? In this case you may want to
repair the Office installation and also take out all Office-related
items out of the startup settings.
