Any help on the following situation would be great!!

Periodically (with increasing frequency, now about once a
day), my Compaq Presario 700Z (running XP) spontaneously
reboots. It doesn't go through the normal shut-down
procedure, it's just GONE with absolutely no warning,
then reboots itself.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
JoAnn Keller

1. Right-click on My Computer and select Manage.
Expand the Event Viewer category and browse through each of the three
sub-categories looking for red-flagged error records whose date and
time stamps correspond to your spontaneous reboots.
Double click on an error record to see the details of that error.
Post the error record details back here if you need further advice or
assistance.

2. Open Control Panel - System - Advanced and click on the Settings
button in the Startup and Recovery (bottom) section.
In the System Failure (middle) section click on the "Automatically
Restart" checkbox to clear.
While you are there, change the Memory Dump option to either "Small
memory dump (64kb)" or "None".

That will stop the spontaneous reboots. However they may be replaced
by a "Blue Screen Of Death" STOP error message which leaves the
computer locked up. The contents of the STOP message will be a clue
as to the cause of the problem. Post that information back here.

Good luck

The replies were very helpful.

Here is the information from one of the reboots:

The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during
its internal processing. HRESULT was 800706BA from line
44 of d:\nt\com\com1x\src\events\tier1
\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact Microsoft Product
Support Services to report this error.

Any ideas?

Thanks so much,
JoAnn
