problems with Adobe Flash Player in Firefox 3.6.3 - please help

My system is running Win7 64-bit. Firefox 3.6.3 has issues with
Adobe Flash Player. I tried the following ...

but it still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

I have been getting a pop up saying the player needs a download too for a
while with Firefox. I tried a few times and it would not work. I just ignore
the pop up now, and if something does not work I use IE. I figure they will
work it out in time.

Yes, I just tested Adobe Flash Player with IE8 and it works fine there for me.

You may have to download and install the ActiveX control for firefox.
I had several sites tell me I needed to upgrade my flash when I had the
latest version installed. Installed the AX and so far had no more
complaints.

Don't have a direct link to the site but if you do a search for firefox
activex you'll come up with plenty of choices.

I use Secunia Personal Software Inspector, as recommended by the folks
at the Windows Secrets newsletter.

PSI runs resident in the system tray and lets me know when a new
update is available to my installed programs. In this case, it popped
up a notice that a Flash update was available. One click later, my
system was updated. Highly recommended.

I don't know whether it still applies within Windows 7, but in the past
Flash Player had to be downloaded from within the browser. If you downloaded
through IE, then it wouldn't necessarily work in Firefox. If you use both
browsers regularly, it probably downloaded through IE, and is then being
flagged as being up to date in Firefox. Try downloading the latest version
from within Firefox, and see what happens.

And just a point to note. I'm running Firefox version 3.6.13, a good bit
more up to date than yours.

Adobe is making it harder and harder, to find a straight download package.
I found this one. This should be divided into two sections "Release" and
"Debug" and you'd want the Release section. A file with a name like
"FlashAX" would be ActiveX and for Explorer. There is also a separate
installer for Firefox/Netscape family. And there should be a standalone
player (which I hardly ever use).

OK, using 7-ZIP on that, I can see

flashplayer10_2r152_26_winax.exe
flashplayer10_2r152_26_win.exe
flashplayer10_2r152_26_win_sa.exe

I'm guessing the first is ActiveX, the second for Firefox, the third is
the StandAlone player. Try the first one.

Even though that download is from the "Archive" section, it is
dated 2/8/2011 and is the current version.

The "normal" download path from adobe, uses a "download accelerator", 900KB
of wasted code, and also includes the option of installing McAfee on your
system. So if you use the "normal" route, be careful to untick a certain
tick box before downloading.
