Can I download SP-1 & install it manually?

So far all my attempts at updating SP-1 have failed. I had used Paragon so
I deleted it using Control Panel and deleted the Paragon backup folder on my
USB drive. I rebooted. That didn't help. I turned off my USB drive and
rebooted. Still no update. I went to Command Prompt, typing in "Mountvol
/E and it says access denied. Help!

If I could download all of SP-1 do you think I could then execute it from my
hard drive and install it?

I downloaded the DVD image from the ms site - it has both 32 and 64bit
upgrades. Used this to update seveal installations without any problems.

That's exactly the problem I had.
Right click on Command Prompt, Run as Administrator, Mountvol /E. Then
run SP1 (from Windows Update preferably, if you can still get it there).

Afterwards put Paragon back; it works extremely well. I restored my
complete C drive with it about 6 months ago, a couple of weeks after
getting this computer, and have had no problems at all with MS updates
until this one. All the Paragon backups, together with the program
itself, were online.
MS should have forewarned us all about unmounted drives.

in mountvol /e. It didn't say "access denied" this time so I think it
worked. So I went to Windows Update and tried again. It failed. I have
ordered the CD from MS for SP-1. Do you think it will work when run from
the CD after I receive it?

That's exactly the problem I had.

It's a bit un-user-friendly when you run it, so I'll forewarn you.

1. Diskpart.
2. (You'll be asked by Windows if it's ok to run Diskpart) Yes
3. (You get presented with another DOS window over the original, but
with DISKPART already typed in) Type "automount enable" without quotes.
4. Cross your fingers, retry SP1, leave it going even when it seems to
be doing nothing but the disk access light is flashing.

I had tried to mountvol /E with no success. The Dispart worked for me. I
don't know if it makes any difference but the internet location (below) I
found this on said, after entering automount enable you should reboot before
trying to install SP-1. I now have SP-1 loaded and active.

Good news, Panic. And well done over the restart too.

Look in Computer/ (right click) Manage/ Disk Management. Do you notice
any new name added to any partition?
