View Full Version : Black screen

Finally got win 8 installed on a HP IQ804 touchsmart. It was working
just fine last night but today I am getting consistent black screen
problems. Why the hell anyone would design something that gives a black
screen with no message of any kind is beyond me! How is one supposed to
troubleshoot or access anything when there is nothing showing to access!

Any ideas where to start?

I have gotten as far as the lock screen occasionally before it goes
black, sometimes so fast I cannot do anything. This install was a
download from Microsoft purchased on there site. Luckily I also ordered
the disc. However it might take several days for the disc to arrive and
I am hoping I can do something beforehand. Black screen is definitely
frustrating to say the least!I s there a key combo To use to access
anything during this as right now I have to hard shutdown several times
before something shows up suggesting there may be a problem and would I
like to refresh, reset, repair or turn off the pc. None of these seem to
help however. All help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Drew

There probably is an error message...on the screen that's not being
displayed.

My guess would be that you've got a video driver problem. Have you tried a
safe boot to see if you can get past the point where it's failing?

And is Win8 supported on the IQ804? The HP web pages to have documentation
for upgrading to Windows 7 but I didn't see anything about Win8 support.

I have no experience with HP consumer product lines, but after writing the
above and poking around (Google is your friend) I found a posting from a
user who reported success installing Windows 8 on an IQ804, but only after
removing the Nvidia driver.

Does taping the Windows key that is located between the Ctrl and the
Alt keys at the lower left of your keyboard clear this black screen
away? Gordon

joe: That is how I originally got win 8 installed was removing the
driver. It appeared to operate correctly overnight and then started
messing up this morning.
