View Full Version : Windows 8 Simplified

I recently bought a copy of Paul McFedries' book, Microsoft Windows 8
Simplified, and have found it very useful. I'm getting my brain tuned
for using Windows 8 and this book has really helped. Has anyone else
reviewed this book? Is there another book that would be a better
choice?

I have no vested interest in this book or any other books but I am
curious as to what most of you use as a training manual. Gordon

Hi, Gordon.

For the past few Windows (XP, Vista and 7), I've relied on the Windows
Inside Out series from Microsoft Press, written by Ed Bott and colleagues.
I see that Windows 8 Inside Out has just been released:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/microsoft_press/archive/2012/11/05/rtm-d-today-windows-8-inside-out.aspx

It is by Tony Northrup; I don't know Tony but it is from Microsoft Press so
it should be authoritative. Win7 IO included the entire book on disk; the
Win8 version is also available in Ebook form.

A few hours (or days) invested in studying a good Windows reference book
should pay dividends, not just for today but for as long as we keep using a
computer - which just might be for the rest of our life!

Thanks, RC. I've printed a copy of the link below and will take it to
the local Barnes & Nobel Book Store the next time I'm in that area.

I tried your link, and I got a server error. I just wanted
to confirm it's the same file you got.

Paul,

Thanks for the above link. The ebook that I downloaded was "Windows 8
for Dummies" - Dell Pocket Edition. This was the same byte size as
above and the MD5 hash is EA77210F187EC079418F88DE444E3958.
