Have been using Win 8 for some months now. Impressive OS.

Wow - thanks for that in-depth critique! Your cons got me a little
worried, but your pros finally convinced me.

Yep and I'm running to the nearest store to buy it. (not)

If you mean the retail version, it's only been out for one month and three
days. Hardly qualifies as "some months" :-)

I'm impressed, too, but not necessarily in a good way. (Nil can add this to
his 'cons' LOL!)

I don't know why you don't like it? As Windows 8 fixes problems that
Windows 7 has with the desktop. Just like Windows 7 fixes problems that
Vista had. Microsoft doesn't fix problems in their OS. They just sell
you a new one with the fixes for the previous OS.

And now the story is that Microsoft is going to launch Windows Blue. So
you never have to purchase a new copy of Windows anymore. Instead, you
pay a yearly low cost subscription fee. And if you don't, nothing will work.

Not exactly. If you want to upgrade, you have to pay. There is no
"subscription". If you don't upgrade, your paid for install will still
work. Can you give us a source for this "subscription" nonsense?

Yeah, the salient point on all the Google results is "Unfortunately none
of this information has been confirmed as yet by Microsoft," so it's all
just speculation and hearsay.

I did and no subscription plan that I could find. So, you stated it and
you should back it up but you won't and you won't reply and you will
hope no one will notice.

Really lazy one? Are you willing to bet your life on it? And face the

Still waiting for you to provide proof for your assertions despite your
sophomoric insults. Nothing about "subscription plans" or "will stop
working" if you don't subscribe" anywhere.

I don't know to what desktop problems you are referring since I haven't had
any. But I couldn't stand the Modern UI to the point that I am pretty much
using Windows 7 desktop on top of Windows 8. Other that that, I'm not overly
disappointed in Win8. I have it on my laptop, which is only 5 months old
manufacture-wise and 2 months old to me (purchased new). I upgraded from Win
HP 64-bit to Win8 Pro 64-bit with very little in the way of problems with
compatible hardware or software. But even with the few problems I had with
the upgrade, it was still more than I had upgrading from Vista to Win7
(different laptop, but at about the same age when I performed that upgrade).

I'll probably leave Win8 on it. As long as I can boot to desktop with a
start menu and no Charms or Chiclets or other moveable, colorful tiles, I'm
happy enough with it.

Oh you haven't noticed any difference between Windows 7 desktop and
Windows 8? How about the graph when transferring files for example? I
love that! And with Windows 7 and a dark background wallpaper, the title
bar is unreadable. Under Windows 8, it automatically adjusts so you can
see it.

I have eight of these Gateway M465 laptops. They are great as far as I
am concern. As they run XP all the way to Windows 8 without problems.
But just Windows 7 coming out of standby the external display is blank.
I use a docking station most of the time. And if I lift the lid for a
second, the internal display fires up and then lower, then external
display is now fine. Under XP or Windows 8, it works perfectly and none
of that Windows 7 nonsense.

I probably would feel the same way as you do about Windows 8 before. But
I have been playing around on the Metro side and Apps too and I like it.
As I like full screen Apps. And now the Start Screen makes a lot of
sense and I like it now. You are not there now, but once you do... it is
almost a certainly you too will like it too. It is just a matter of
time. ;-)

"They took another page from Apple..."

Yes, they've lost their minds.

Since when is imitating a competitor, a success recipe ?

I would tend to agree. I would use the Metro interface more if I were
using Windows 8 on a tablet, or if I had a touchscreen monitor. I
cheat and use Start 8 which boots by default to the old desktop.

I have no major complaints with Windows 8 at home. If IT installed it
at our office, it would shut down the business for at least half a day
while the workstations users tried to figure out how to create
documens, etc., from the new interface.

Google
