Hi All,

I found this on my RSS feed for W8:

Windows 8 desktop wakes up unexpectedly
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2799178/en-us?sd=rss&spid=16796

Speaking of off not being off (W8's shutdown is actually log off
and hibernate), this turkey will actually turn itself back on
in the middle of the night (3:00 am) to install updates.

I find this behavior really creepy! But, getting over the
initial shock and talking it over with the Arm Candy, it
occurred to both of us that this my actually come in handy.
I can not tell you how many perplexed customers I have had the
following conversation with: "Why can't you tell it to install
my updates at 3 in the morning?" "Because you have to leave
your computer on." So, maybe not so creepy. Oh hell: it's
still creepy!

No mention in the article if W8 will shut itself back off
(go into hibernation) automatically after it completes its
updates. Suppose that depends on your power settings.

As a side note: If your computer wakes up and you don't know why, you
can issue the following to find out why:

powercfg /lastwake
