Digital Rights Management ?

It's not hard to get a movie on your computer,
but it's hard to check that you're supposed to
have that movie. And this is why Netflix really
likes DRM. It assures the media suppliers, of who
the audience will be (content limited to subscribers).

"In a TechRepublic interview in August 2010, Netflix's
VP of Corporate Communications stated that available
Silverlight plugins for Linux, such as Moonlight, do
not support the PlayReady DRM system that Netflix
requires for playback."

This article covers what else Netflix is up to. Next,
they want to distribute content in HTML5, but HTML5
doesn't have DRM just yet. Adobe is working on a DRM
plugin for browsers.

As long as there is a working DRM system to prevent
copying, or non-subscribers getting any, then they're
ready to use newer distribution formats.
