My vision is not what it used to be.

When I run only on battery power on my laptop, the screen brightness decreases a lot.

Is there a way to stop that ?

Adjust the power settings

Power setting set to Portable/Laptop

But be aware that it does that so that the machine will run longer
before the battery needs recharging.

I managed to do it with the Power settings on my Windows 8.1 machine.

But it took awhile - couple hours total of fooling around, and I *still*
don't think it is 100% of what it could be.

Bottom Line: It's possible, and don't feel like you are the only one.

That's the problem. Make a note of all the settings showing that you
want to keep, the turn off times for the monitor, harddrive, standby and
hibernate, and then set your profile to Desktop, but insert each of
those settings by hand. Then save the profile and I believe the name
you save it under will show up on the list, and leave it in the window.

This means I suppose that closing the lid won't make it do anything
anymore.
