View Full Version : O.T. Parking in fire lane

I live in an apartment.

Parking in the fire lane is a regular occupation with many tenants.

Manager is aware of this, but could care less.

Would that bother you ?

It sure would.

Is the apartment building made of straw or kryptonite?

Just kidding, doesn't matter.

I know some fire departments, when they find a car in the way fo the
hydrant, for example, they'll breark both windows and run the hose
through the car. I'm not sure if they'll push the cars out of the way
or not, breaking whatever breaks.

Who does the manager work for?

And why not call the fire deparatment or police department. The first
will care and the second loves to give tickets. Don't admit to
anyone you've done this. We had a shortage of parking when I was just
out of college, one car never moved, I called the police, it was
probably towed away, and months later a man confronted me about it. How
he knew it was I, I don't know. I must have squealed on myself. He
didn't get that angry iirc but I parked in a parking lot a half-block
away and my car was stolen, because of that.

That morning neighbor boy drove me around for 90 minutes to every street
in my n'hood, but no car. In the afternoon, girlfriend drove me around
every street in the next n'hood for same length of time, and the city is
on a grid and I had the grid and its exceptions in my head and on the
last block of the last street, the only block we had not yet driven on,
there was my car. I was living out of it and all my stuff was gone
but the spare tire and jack were still there, and it started fine and I
drove it home. I guess it had been hotwired because the ignition was
fine too. I had the car for several more years.

The street I found it on was not obscure and it was not a dead end. It
was in the middle of the n'hood. I only got there last because of the
difficulty of running a pattern where there are one-way streets, etc.

I was thinking the same thing.
There are several law related newsgroups.

And just for the record, I'd call the police and they will probably
ticket and tow the car away. Rude and inconsiderate assholes who
endanger other people, deserve to be punished!

Some cities have towing laws, which define what an
apartment manager can do for posted restricted zones.

Tow a few cars out of there, and the word will get out.
It should say "Fire Lane" and "Towaway Zone". Then
start towing them.

And some tow companies are only too happy to oblige.
Since they get a fat fee from the car owner.
As long as there is a legal process for doing a towaway,
they will do it for you.

Fire lanes exist, so emergency equipment can navigate
a site, or a hook and ladder can put up the rescue ladder.

The posting of a Fire Lane, may be part of the permits
for the site, as defined by the city. So the city may say
"you must have a Fire Lane here". The apartment owner
might not care, except for some regulation requiring
clearance around the building. And it's so the Fire
Department can pull people out of the building, if a
stairwell or elevator is unusable. Using the hook and ladder
allows pulling people out of bedroom windows, before the
smoke gets them.

'Cause that's just what this clown does, repeatedly in this newsgroup
and others. It's an attempt to get attention, good or bad. And it
works, apparently.

The apartment property had a major fire about 3 years ago.

A guy ran to many apartments warning them and saving many lives.

He caught on fire and jumped in the pool.

He died about 3 days later because of 3rd degree burns.

The apartment manager get's a cut of towed cars.

She has illegal signs posted in regards to towing which has resulted in jury awards to victims.

I heard from a reliable source that the property has been sold and they will convert to condos with a $500 rent increase.

I have been looking for other areas to rent.

Do you want the cars towed or not? If it's a marked fire zone, why
shouldn't they tow the cars?

Which means it is in the wrong newsgroup.

It's not that complicated.

a) You have no idea whether I have children or not;

b) this isn't a chat room;

c) why would you care if anyone here was "bothered" by your parking
situation?

In your OP you said the manager is aware of parking in the fire lane but
could care less. Now you say she gets a cut of the towed cars

And now you say that she has posted signs.

You *are* a troll. Go away, get therapy, and dont' bother us.

I don't know what a fire lane is, though I can guess from other posts.

It'd bother me if s/he _couldn't_ care less; the fact that s/he _could_
care less, I'd find reassuring.

On balance, it does appear that the OT OP is winding up.
