Can Avira's update _time_ be set?

I've found a setting for _interval_ (which was at the minimum, 2
hours!), but I can't find any hint of a time-of-say setting.

(Under XP, of course; FWIW, I seem to have "Product version" 15.0.19.164
dated 2016-8-18, "Search engine" version 8.03.44.20 dated 2017-3-24,
"Virus definition file" 8.12.161.112 dated 2017-3-28 [i. e. today],
eight other bits that are version 15.00.19.163 dated 2016-10-25,
"Filter" 15.00.18.303 2016-7-28, and "Rootkits Protection" 15.00.19.163
2016-10-25.)

I guess I could set it to 1 day interval, then trigger a manual update
at the time I want, but I presume that could be disrupted, e. g. if I
happen to have turned off the computer at the desired time.

(Incidentally, I see while I was looking up the above information, that
my [free] licence is valid until 2018-1-2. Is that just a point in the
future that keeps receding, or a cessation of XP support?)

Back in 2012, Avast announced a change from polling for updates (and
having the client pull them) to streaming updates (their server pushed
them). See:

After over 5 years, I'm surprised Avira hasn't implemented a similar
scheme to ensure their customers always have the latest signature
database.

Does Avira use its own constantly running scheduler process to run these
jobs or does it simply provides its own GUI but the scheduling is done
by Task Scheduler? If they use Task Scheduler, and if their GUI to it
doesn't give you all the same options, you could go into Task Scheduler
to modify that job.

That's when your subscription to Avira will expire. Even the free
versions are registered which means you get a specific period of time to
use them. Then you have to get another free version of their product or
renew the license. Just because it is free does not mean it is
unlicensed. I have to renew my Avast Free subscription after a year
which its subscription expires.

Strange, however: that (accessible by double-clicking the tray icon,
possibly other ways too) seems to have let me schedule updates (e. g. at
a specific time once a day); however, Configure (from _right_-clicking
the tray icon) still has the update interval setting, with no apparent
way to turn that off.

Go into Task Scheduler to check if any events are defined for Avira.

Does the update interval setting look anything like this?

If so, what is the longest interval you can configure? You could put
that at its longest setting and rely on a scheduled "update" job to get
the updates at the time of day you want.

I've found "Scheduled Tasks" - is that it? Nothing Avira there.

That's what I've done. (The longest interval was something very odd -
not a round number of days!)

Way back when I used to waste CPU on an antivirus product, I too used
Avira.
They had their own task called "schedule" (or was it "update"?) and the
comically named Luke Filewalker to check all files. I used to kill the
"schedule" task.

can set at a particular time of day, and one you can set at intervals. I
have set the former (to happen at a time of day the computer is usually
on, but I'm not using it; the update slows this computer significantly
for several minutes when it happens), but there seems no way to unset
the latter, only to set the interval to the maximum (the rather odd
value of 22 days, 18 hours, 7 minutes).

I've generally found Avira tasks rather hard to kill (understandably);
how did you do so?

Sorry, this was years back; I think I just used Sysinternals Procexp.
Maybe it's harder now.

Ah, thanks, I'll try that next time I want to. I'd mainly just been
