View Full Version : No DirectX 12 on Windows 7, exclusive to Windows 8/10

I guess gamers will have no choice but to move to Windows 8 and 10 if
they want the best performance and the greatest graphics. I have no
problem with that myself.

Oh, the horror.

It's deja-vu all over again.

Do you see the difference here ?

I knew you could.

And when they do these, they spend three months doing extra
code for the one on the left. Someone *could* add water effects
to the one on the right, if they wanted to. This kind of
photo is used to sell ATI video cards. If you look at the
body of the car, notice the body work is the same. Bumping
the DX level, didn't make the body look different.

In the article here, they're just fiddling with the
interface between OS and video card. No mention
of anything graphically related at all.

"The framerate is pretty much the same but but the CPU time in
milliseconds spent to render that frame is much lower"

Impressive. I guess. It's like knowing the sewer system
in your city is now 30% more efficient. Exciting times.

But that is only a vague rumour, and is most unlikely to happen.
Microsoft would never prevent most of their users (which Windows 7 users
will be for a long time yet) playing new games, since they sell games
themselves they would be "cutting off their nose to spite their face",
as they say.

But haven't they already failed to provide DirectX 11.1 for Windows 7?

I had Nvidea Banshee 3dfx equivalent, was a great graphics for 3d games in
1999. Lost it somewhere.

It's not fully implemented - but most functions are available. 11.2 is
only available on Windows 8. If they are not updating current O/Ss they
are being very shortsighted. I'll do without the latest games rather
than change my main system.
