I don't believe they do provide it free now although if installed, it does
update.

Try http://www.freeav.com/.

I had the free ver. installed, and tried to update it.......... It would not
access the site automatically (like it used to) I tried it manually, and
still nothing. Soooo I removed AVG from my computer, and figured I'll just
re-install from their site.. Filled out the info that they requested, and
then had the option of having it download automatically or
manually..........Still nothing happened.I did however get my Password via
email ( It was the same password that I've had for several years). Any
suggestions will be appreciated...
Free is good, but, if I have to buy, I guess I have no choice

You could have just downloaded the virus update rather than the whole
thing. AVG must have unusual demands on their site at the moment
because of the lovsan worm.

Yes, Grisoft still offers the free anti-virus software... go here:
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

Occasionally, and I find this often, the site is VERY slow and downloads
take forever or don't, but KEEP TRYING.

So far, no viruses, thanks to AVG

Good Luck,

Rich

It is my ovservation that almost all of the security sites are
overwhelmed
after the fact that there is a serious virus that is spreading right
now.
