View Full Version : DVD not working after upgrade

After upgrade from 'Windows 7 Ultimate' to 'Windows 10 Pro', my DVD
player is not functional any more.

In 'Device Manager' it shows: 'ATAPI DVD A DH16AASH' with a yellow
explamation mark in fort of it....

Any one know a solution?

The driver worked OK in Windows 7

Punch this into Google:

Atapi Dvd A DH16AASH Driver registry corrupted

A few posts down explains a fix about removing filters.

Uninstall the drivers. Reboot and Win10 should load the correct ones.

Here's a link to the "$15 for MSFT DVD driver" story :

" ...There’s another great app in the Windows Store that you can download.
It’s called VLC, it’s totally free, "

It would appear that the string "ATAPI DVD A DH16AASH" is
a clever hint. It is indicating not the make and model
of drive, but is some response to the setup for a real
drive not being correct. If you attempt to look for a
hardware specification for DH16AASH, you're left
spinning in circles.

This thread gives a recipe for checking upperfilter
type issues.

Another way to do that, would be to use a DVD troubleshooter.
I think this will check the Class GUID for optical
and clean out the filter. And this way, if you're not
familiar with regedit, this will do the work for you.

-Bobb-,

The error code indicates its a drive issue, not an inability to play DVD
disks.
The drive issue needs to be rectified, the DVD Player app from MSFT is
unlikely to solve the drive issue...the DVD Player app still needs a
recognized DVD drive.

Just deleting 'UpperFilters' (and rebooting), like described in above
link, solved my problem.

Thanks!
