Win 10 & 7 installation info

2 days ago I got my reserved copy of Win 10 and after using Acronis to back
up the SSD1 drive that
held Win 7 I let it "upgrade" Win 7 to Win 10.It took about 1 hour but
finally it was done and restarted into
Win 10. I checked and Win 10 was activated but I need to verify my MS
Account with that Cell Phone Text thing.
All of my desktop folders/Icon were there and so was Rocket Dock. I have
spend the last day opening and running
every single program that was installed under Win 7 and have found a few
that do not function or do not function fully.
Money Sunset does not work it asks for IE6 to be installed
Bit Defender Anti Virus needed an update in order to function
correctly...but at the same time it seemed to have closed my
Internet connection down because a was in "unprotected mode" . After about
an hour of frustatingly trying to get it work work I shut down and had a
Coffee..
when I came back and turned the system on everything was again
working...Internet was up and running and BitDefender was updating.
RoboForm was not functioning nor incorporated into EDGE..I had to use IE in
order to access my password protected sites.
Under IE some online Java based games gave error messages about continuing
to run Scripts if you clicked yes you got a frozen IE if you clicked
no you went to the next page and got asked the same question....etc etc
Now on to the other part.....
I restarted the system Using Acronis Recovery CDI
I erased my other SSD2 drive which had held my Preview version of Win10 and
2 backup partitions that
I could not get rid of under the new Win 10 installation.
I then used Acronis to install the backed up Win 7 onto that drive doing a
sector by sector recovery
I rebooted upon completion and used BCD in Win 10 to add Win 7 to the boot
menu
Rebooting again I entered Win7 and it works.and it still shows as
Activated.

Licensing wise...one can not use the prior o/s that was used to upgrade
the same device to Win10 on the same or another device (stand-alone or
dual boot).

Technological capable, though is not the same as the licensing
constraint. The former being possible, the latter saying if done it
violates the license.

The reality is there can be no constraints on the right to privacy.
What one does in the privacy of his home has few limits. You can operate
a car without a license if done on your own property. Trying to claim
otherwise is an attempt to violate that right of privacy.

Any license terms end at your front door.

Now that I have W10 installed on SSD#1
and W7 installed on SSD#2 how do I get rid
of the Update notice in the lower right corner on W7

This registry item is floating around. I gather it
was originally applied with GPEdit somehow. I don't
know what the permissions on that registry key will be.

I've not upgraded yet. I'm a luddite who doesn't have a cell phone. Do
they offer an alternative verification method?

Yes. They also offer an alternative eMail method. It's in a drop-down
menu of options, IIRC... I used the alternative eMail method... It wasn't
all that daunting, but I don't remember the particulars, only that it
worked just fine.

The op's problem requiring validation of the MS Account was independent
and not related to installing or use of Windows 10....it was dependent
solely on the MS Account need to validate for use.

That requirement is generated by the MS Account backend server that
hosts the account....not Windows 10.

The verification requirement can be triggered by a variety of reasons (a
few are below)
- random selection (a fractional quantity of accounts are chosen)
- unusual activity in the account (quantity of incoming/outgoing mail)
- external reports that phishing emails are using the email address to
send mail
- the MS Account's contact reported the email as potentially hacked
- known hacked account
- multiple logon failures using the incorrect password
- signing on to the account from a different location.
- signin on the account from a different device
- account inactivity/not having used the account recently (MSFT has
not made public the exact time that triggers this)


All MSFT account's have the ability to setup alternate proofs to receive
a verification code.
- alternate email address
- sms text message to capable phones or devices (cell phones)
- phone call with message to landline phone

Note: If you don't have a cell phone or prefer not to use a landline
phone..it would be extremely prudent to obtain an alternate email
address (Outlook.com, Gmail, your isp) for use as an alternate proof.

Thanks to all
The registry entry did not exist
I followed the "HowtoGeek.com directions and removed KB3035583
After a restart it was gone.

I also ended up doing a "CLEAN" install of W10
I found my System to be Internet Sluggish........with instances of complete
freeze and being unable to shut down either IE nor EDGE.
I also found problems with LIveMail not connecting to this newsgroup
Using the downloaded ISO I basically did a new clean install
formating SSD#1 during the process....it actually took less time than
the upgrade.It Activated it self and so far seems to have picked up
Speed with no freezes..... A seperate LIve Mail Folder solved the Mail
problem....W10 added some stuff to the old folder that interfered with W7
use of the folder.
