View Full Version : Devices and Printers

I have a Win7 PC that has been upgraded to Windows 10 (not a clean install).

I've been running about a week and almost everything works but I'm
trying to figure out what's wrong with Devices and Printers.

Start -> Settings -> Devices -> scroll to bottom -> Devices and Printers

The list doesn't show any external USB hard/flash drives, as other
Windows 10 PCs do. When I insert a USB device, no new icons show up.
It also doesn't show my one and only HP printer, even though the device
driver has been installed. The printer works just fine but it's not in
the list.

It shows 6 items under "Devices" and 4 under "Printers".

I tried removing an existing item from the list and nothing happens. As
best I can tell the list of devices is frozen and nothing can be added
or removed. I tried adding devices and it is never able to find any
devices to add.

I've compared with other Windows 10 users and these things do work for them.

Does anyone know how that list works and what might be wrong with it?

I'm really hoping I don't have to do a clean install to fix this.

Thanks for any help.
Bruce.

Figure it out after trying countless things. The service "Device Install
Service" was disabled and should have been set to Manual Trigger Start".
Once that was started the Devices and Printers immediately filled in.
