View Full Version : McAfee

I have been having problems with my computer all day. I finally ran a
McAfee virus scan and it hung on HH.exe. I set up a chat with McAfee
and they fixed the problem in about 15 minutes including the time to
reboot my computer.

People put down Mc Afee but their support far exceeds any other software
company that I know of. SUPPORT for their SOFTWARE is EVERYTHING.

As far as I am concerned Microsoft support is one notch below ATT's
award winning support that where I spent nearly 13 hours on hold trying
to get help.

assistance in helping with my computer problems?

I am sure that free software organization does not have the help desk
that a paid for subscription company has for it subscribers.

Your problem is McAfee. Deal with it.

I was told the same thing when my wife got her new Dell computer with
Windows 8.1, that came with McAfee. Everyone said it was McAfee
anti-virus making it run so slow. So I removed McAfee, and the
computer was still slow. Window 8.1 is just slow compared to Windows 7
and Windows 10.

I was running McAfee on Windows 10, until I removed Windows 10 today,
and I didn't have a problem with it.

I'm running it on Windows 7 Professional, and have no problem with it.

Good question. My answer is that on a good day they don't provide much
protection, and on a bad day their software is probably the cause of the
issue.

I'd rather not need support in the first place. I agree with Wolf, ditch
that junk.

OP to trouble shoot the problem I have uninstalled McAfee and a couple
of other programs. I have rebooted several times and have had Defender
lock up three times now trying to do a Quick scan.

I have ran Window Update on Windows 10, and as I said Defender is still
not able to complete it scan

Great shield? Might wanna check out the test results when it comes to
Vipre (McAfee destroys Vipre, BTW). Ditch Vipre, save some money, and
use a freebie.

Seconded, my son bought a laptop for our granddaughter, he saved money
by not having the paid for McAfee installed but when we fired it up the
free version was installed.

He asked me to remove it and instal Kaspersky, I have a three licence
version from Barclays Bank.

I used the windows 8.1 removal tool which totally screwed up the
system, fortunately I managed to eventually get rid of the crap and
instal Kaspersky.

I'm not a novice but I fear a normal buyer from Curry's would have been
totally bemused if they tried to remove this rubbish and they would have
been charged vast amounts of money to 'repair' the computer.

Funny that Kaspersky also has a removal tool. I guess that makes it
"rubbish" also.

http://support.kaspersky.com/common/service.aspx?el=1464

Over the years I've used ESET, Kaspersky, Norton, McAfee, and almost all
of the top free antivirus programs and the only one I had a problem
removing was MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials - back when it was
actually worth using).

I don't follow your reasoning there, it was the fact that McAfee was so
deeply embedded that using the Windows 8.1 software removal tool wrecked
the system, nothing to do with Kaspersky, when I got the system back
running Kaspersky worked perfectly.

My point is, if you try to use the Windows 8.1 software removal tool
(Add/Remove Programs) you will likely run into the same problem if you
try to remove Kaspersky that way. That is why Kaspersky has a removal
tool. Antivirus programs have "hooks" that attach themselves to the OS.
That is why a lot of AV programs offer an uninstaller. I use the Revo
uninstaller myself to remove all programs.

If you used a Windows 8 removal tool to remove a virus protection
program from Windows 10, you deserve what you got.

What ever virus protection program you use, you should down load the
current tool to remove a current program.

Pretty sure Mike was talking about installing Kaspersky on a Win8.1
machine.

That or use the Revo uninstaller.

If that's aimed at me then I suggest you re-read my original post.
