We'll need to be careful here. If you are viewing a page on the Internet,
and you see something that looks like a dialog box warning you about
security problems or pop-ups, those are ads. Do not be taken in. If you are
on the Internet and another, smaller window opens in front of, or behind,
the page you are viewing, that's a pop-up ad, and you'll need to install
pop-up blocking software to combat it. Fortunately, there are many pop-up
stoppers available from the Internet, and many of those are free.
If, OTOH, you see pop-up ads even when you're not on the Internet, you are
getting what's known as messenger spam, which is particularly galling. To
stop it, activate Internet Connection Firewall. (See instructions in Help
and Support.) You'll achieve the same thing, and a whole lot more, if you
install a third-party firewall. Truth is, these days a firewall is a
must-have piece of software for anyone who connects to the Internet.
