Hi. I'm trying to install the MS update patch and I'm not
sure what type of XP I have (32 bit or 64 bit)? It is Win
XP Home version 5.1. Can anyone tell me how to find out
what I have?
Thanks!!!

There is no 64 bit home version.
You have 32.

Since there is no 64-bit Home version, you have the 32-bit
edition. But even if were XP Professional, anybody who has to ask
the question is running the 32-bit version. The 64-bit version
requires special hardware. It and the hardware have come down in
price, but are still substantially more expensive than the
standard consumer PCs you see around. Very few home users are
using it.
