My daughter is having a problem with spam on her
computer. She has Windows XP Home running. I suggested
she "stop" "messenger" service by going to control panel,
administrative tools and selecting the "messenger" line
and clicking it to change the properties... however, that
line doesn't exist in her list... three is no line
with "messenger" in it. Why would it be missing... how
can we get it back... could it have accidently been
deleted or could a virus have deleted it?? Also her
windows firewall was on.

She is also having a lot of problems with Trojans horses
and viruses... and her norton antivirus doesn't seem to
be getting rid of all of them. She has always kept
norton updated, but the other day, after she booted her
computer she noticed Norton Antivirus was disabled.

What can she do to set her computer right again... Thanks

Lynn;
Run an updated virus scan.
Or Scan for Viruses online:
http://security.symantec.com/ssc/home.asp?j=1&langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=IRLFIZTYMWPAZTJWUFJ
Run Disk Cleanup checking all boxes except "Compress old files"
Run Defrag.
If you have file sharing software such as Kazaa, disable it.
Check this link:
http://www.aumha.org/a/noads.php
Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/ (Update if you already have it)
Or
http://spybot.eon.net.au/ (Update if you already have it)
