I am not a tech, but I had the same problem yesterday. It
was the Blaster Worm virus. Go to the Microsoft site for
instructions to download the patch. It was on 2 of my
machines which are on a network. On the first computer, I
was able to remove the virus by downloading the patch, I
also downloaded the latest virus definitions and ran
Norton Antivirus. It removed the file name "msblast.exe"
which was located in C:\windows\System32.

On my 2nd machine, I attempted to rename and delete this
file. Perhaps because I tried tampering with the file it
was harder to remove. I went to Symantec to look for
other options and got instructions to edit the registry
which was real easy. Go to
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w3
2.blaster.worm.html and you'll find instructions on page
2 of 5 to edit the registry. You'll be able to delete the
msblast.exe file. You'll want to download the lastest
virus definitions and scan your hard drive. I hope this
helps.
