The first thing to do is try uninstalling and reinstalling
Paint. You can do so by going to Control Panel and
selecting Add/Remove Programs. Then select Add/Remove
Windows Components. Select Accessories & Utilities and
click Details. Then select Accessories and click Details.
You can uninstall paint by unchecking it. Then you can
reinstall it by checking it again. Note that you may need
your Windows disc or the restore partition on your hard
drive.

Hope this helps,
Milt

I have Windows XP Home edition, and everytime that I try to open
Microsoft Paint, I get an error message that says the
program has encountered and error and needs to shut down.
It has done this as long as I can remember, and when I
send the error report to microsoft, it doesn't give me
any suggestions or solutions.
Any help would be fantastic!
Thanks.
B.D.

Hi,

If you encounter an error in opening or using mspaint, this often helps:

Close any/all instances of MSPaint. Then start/run regedit, navigate to this
key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre nt Version\Applets\Paint

Hightlight (click on it) that key and delete it. Close the registry editor
and reopen Paint.
