No running applications shown on taskbar

I installed XP Service Pack 1 today as i had reformatted
recently but when it loaded all i had on the taskbar was
the start button, quick launch icons and the clock with
tray icons. The icons to show the applications that i was
running wasn't shown so i didnt know wat i was running
unless i alt-tabbed to see. This is rather annoying and
if anyone knows how to fix this i would be gratefull to
find out how. Thanks
