when I upgraded from win 98 to win xp, client for netware
was installed. why do I need this compoment? How can I
uninstall it?

Why? who knows.
If you dont need it then...
in Control Panel select Network Connections
Right Click your Network Adapter and select Properties
Select the Client Service for Netware Networks and click Uninstall.
All gone

Dear,
the netware client could have been installed if your old OS was using
Ipx/spx protocol or detected history of netware servers....
That can be
other wise select, Start-> parameters->Control Panel -> Network Connections
Right Click your Network Adapter ->Properties
Select the Client Service for Netware Networks ->click Uninstall
Netware client must gone out....
