I know very little about computers so please bear with
me. I'm not sure if this is a Symantec question or a
Microsoft question but here goes. While running the
W32.Blaster.Worm Fix Tool downloaded from Symantec's web
site, I get the following Microsoft error
message: "Fixtool for W32.Blaster.Worm has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience". It goes on to give me the option of
sending an error report to Microsoft. I ran the fix tool
after downloading the patch and with Windows XP system
restore turned off. I also tried doing this in Safe
Mode. Any idea why I am getting this message? Also, how
can I tell if the patch if properly installed? Thank you
so much for any assistance.

Try the following. Open Explorer, go to the Windows folder, click the plus
sign, go to the System32 folder, click the plus sign, rename the catroot2 to
catroot2old, reboot the system and see if you can run the tool. NOTE: if
you do not see a catroot2 folder, DO NOT RENAME the Catroot folder. If
there is not catroot2 folder, than the issue casuing this is somthing else.
