XP Prof Remember Passwords

I have XP Professional and have to repeatedly type the
same passwords in both IE and Outlook, even though I check
the remember password option. If XP Prof still uses a pwl
file, I did a search and do not have one. The only fixes I
found is deleting a key in the registry, which I am afraid
to do. I can not find a set password key that is mentioned
in one of the MS articles.

This is very annoying and I can't even find any answers. I
have also done the office repair option with no help.
