problem downloading updates

Since I have XP installed on my pc the update service reports available
updates, suggests that they are downloaded and installed, but in fact
nothing happens, because the next day I get a request to download the same
updates again...When I try to download updates by hand it doesn´t work. Has
anybody an idea what I should do?

Maybe your AV is interfering,

Windows-update is particular about clock-settings being right (seems OK from
here though)

Sorry, can't offer any other suggestions.
