protect my computer, I have Windows xp professional, I
don't which one to download 32 bit or 64 bit.

You have the 32-bit version. Anyone with the 64-bit version knows
it by the big dent in his wallet.
But this is a not an E-mail message, purportedly from MS, telling
you to run an attached exe file, is it? If so, it's *not* from
MS, but is instead a hoax and the exe file contains a virus.

You should NOT be getting urgent e-mails to install patches. MS does not do
that. You should seet auto update or updat manually. E-mail updates should
be considered a virus.

If you get an email telling you to download a patch, be damn
sure it is a genuine email from Microsoft. There are a
bunch of these emails going around and they either have a
virus attachment or they direct you to a phony site that can
infect your computer or hijack your computer.
MS does offer a update notification service only if you
requested the notification.
Odds are a million to 1 you have a 32 bit computer, 64 bit
stuff is high end ( mega-bucks) servers and such.
