View Full Version : Slow to get started

In recent weeks my XP home has been getting slower and
slower. It boots up ok, but takes about 30 seconds to
respond to the first click of the start button, and
applications like Word or AOL can take the same amount of
time launch. I've tried a clean boot, the problem seems
to lie with the Start Up items. Where next?

Try regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
You might find some rogue applications in here that don't play nice with XP,
or any operating system for that matter.
2nd, I'd get away from AOL, it has a boatload of overhead, this of course is
my unbiased opinion, and I am not a Microsoft employee....
Perhaps one of the newsgroup experts can elaborate on this as well.
